Hey Folks,
I hope you’re having a good week. It’s great to read blogs that are all nice and cheery, but I’m going to be honest with you and if you have fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue, you’ll understand. I was going to do a “video blog” but I’m not feeling my best today and I don’t do videos or get my picture taken when I don’t look “my best”. Such is life with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue — you just never know what the day will be like. I have stayed on “The Wellness Prescription” diet, but I’ve had more to do than usual this week and I’m just worn out — I imagine you’ve all been there. I wanted to show you the osteoball, it’s a little bit bigger than I expected but manageable. I’ve done the 10 exercises that are shown on the ball on two different days without any additional pain. These are “resistance exercises”, they are the type that are supposed to help strengthen my bones and gently rebuild my atrophied muscles. It only took 5 seconds of each exercise for my muscles to start burning, so even though they are simple, they definitely work! I think I’m actually going to be able to continue doing this routine without hurting myself ~~ when I have the energy.
My doctor told me to always leave a day between any exercise routine, with FMS/CFS sometimes there’s a lot more than one day between sessions! I do what I can, but when I have to do anything more than what I usually do in a day, I just don’t have the strength to exercise. It’s frustrating, and I know that each of you with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue have experienced this frustration — wanting to do something that you just don’t have the strength or are in too much pain to do. It’s Sunday night and I won’t have a “normal” day until Wednesday. A doctor’s appointment on Monday and the dentist on Tuesday, maybe by Wednesday or Thursday I’ll get to use my Osteoball again!

Resistance is a key factor in increasing blood flow into the bone marrow, transporting essential micro-nutrients and minerals that will support bone density and reduce the incidence of osteoporosis.
People usually think this means weight lifting or nautilus types of training. Those are excellent, but any resistance will do. It’s especially good to do within an hour of taking calcium-magnesium supplements since their absorption into the bone marrow itself is not easily achieved, and is greatly enhance by doing resistance exercises right after taking them.
Good tip, here, Karla. Keep it rollin’!

Thanks for the info David. It’s especially helpful to know that I should do the osteoball within an hour of taking my calcium magnesium as I have already been diagnosed with osteopenia (precursor to osteoporosis). As far as “keep it rollin”, I’m actually squeezing, pulling & pushing the ball, but “keep it rollin’” sounds like a good motto
Blessings,
Karla

Hi Karla, yes I have tried and have to agree with David, because he showed me how. I must admit that I am clumsy and have screwed up many times, but practice makes perfect.
Good to see you are getting better all the time.

hi Karla,
it’s great to know you are getting better!
You are very persistent, that is the key.
And Thanks to David for the tip on taking Calcium right before making resistance exercises.
Thanks

Hi Karla,
Resistance is a great way to keep the muscle toned. It is also beneficial in keeping the bones from becomming weak and brittle. And yes, its good practice to skip a day when working the same muscle group. It allows the muscles to repair themselves.
Keep moving forward!!

Hey Karla, good luck with your dentist appointment!
The whole idea of facing the dentist can provoke all of that to me
I have to say though, that your condition demands a lot of commitment. Sometimes we all feel a little bit “tired of everything”, but is different than dealing with a chronic disease.
Good luck with your exercising and keep on “resisting”, my friend.
… hummm, not sure if my comment makes sense. This “resisting” in Spanish is kind of a tribute to your great spirit!

Hey Tim,
Sorry to hear that your wife also has FMS. I do hope some of the info in my blog will be helpful to her
Some days it can be really hard for those of us out here with FM/CFS but it comes down to the same things that apply to others, only some days a little slower! I’m glad to see you making such great strides and that the exercises are working for you with no increased pain. Keep on keeping on girl!
