Make Extra Money

Preventative Measures VS Reactive Measures

November 1st, 2010 by Karla Setchel

Hi Folks,
What’s the best Life Choice policy, taking “preventative” measures or “reactive” ones?  Regardless of if it’s with your finances and saving money in advance BEFORE you need a new roof, putting gas in your car BEFORE it runs out or your health by using products like antioxidants to reduce free radicals to reduce cell damage that may lead to an illness or injury, it seems to me that prevention is the smartest way to go.  Unfortunately in the USA, I find more people who wait until there’s a problem before they try to find a solution or are willing to pay for it. I mean, let’s face it — you’re going to have to pay for the new roof and gasoline at some point, why not a save a little at a time in advance?  Here’s a novel idea, treat your body like a car and make sure it has what it needs on a daily basis to work properly!  Seriously, do you wait until your car runs out of gas to fill up your gas tank?  The car runs fine right up until the moment it runs out of gas — then it’s crisis time and you have to call someone for help or walk to the nearest gas station. In my opinion, that’s a lot more stressful than taking steps to prevent the crisis in the first place.

So what do you do?  Do you take care of yourself now — before there’s a problem or do you wait until there’s pain or test results that interrupt or threatens your life before you take action?  Leave a comment to let me know, and if you like this article or know someone who can benefit from it, please feel free to share it on Facebook and Twitter  :-D

“Oops, I Did It Again”… Missed a Goal That Is ~~

October 24th, 2010 by Karla Setchel

Hey Folks,
I hope everyone is having a fantastic week.  Mine’s been very exciting.  I started dating again basically for the first time in 30 years!  Scary and exciting at the same time :-D ! However, with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, I have less “energy coins” to expend than an average person my age  and I found it difficult to balance my new found activities with my daily “take care of me and get my work done”.  I finally realized that if I didn’t want to stay single, I was going to have to make time for dating,  My plan was to date one man a week, just a 2 hour dinner to start getting to know them — not a big deal, right?  That wouldn’t take too much time or energy away from my business.  I didn’t think about the phone calls that go along with dating, getting caught up in how much fun I was having meeting prospective life partners, or going out with the same man 8 times in 16 days! ( He’s really nice! )  I’m a real “people person”, but this is sooo different from just meeting new friends. So, I missed a couple of my goals last week ~~ one of which is writing a new blog post every week, and a few other projects that I was supposed to be working on.  What do you do when you miss a goal?  Do you get angry and quit or do you rethink, reorganize and reset your goals so that today you will do something to move a step closer to reaching them?  I’m working on many goals right now, one is finding another life partner after being single for a year and a half, one is regaining my health — I’m working with a friend to find a hot tub that I can relax and exercise in that I can afford, build my business so that the next time I want something “affordability” won’t be an issue, in addition to the daily “have to’s” of living ~~ eating, breathing, sleeping etc… LOL

So seriously, let me know what YOU do when you miss a goal that you’ve set for yourself regardless of whether it’s in business, weight loss, exercise, or projects that you want to complete.

If you enjoyed this post, please feel free to share it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Digg  etc…  :)

One Way to Reduce the Pain and Weakness of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue

October 11th, 2010 by Karla Setchel

Hey Folks,

As always, I hope your having a good week!  I want to talk to you today about another one of the ways I reduce my pain levels and weakness from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.  The doctors measure pain on a scale of one to ten.  I’ve found that when my pain gets up to level 5, my muscles will go into spasms and I will be totally out of commission for at least one day if not more.  If I stop my activity when the pain gets to level 4 and rest for a while, then I can get up and usually do a little more!  The same thing with the “fatigue”, if I push myself too far, the next day I barely have the strength to get out of bed, much less be productive at anything.  Big reason to listen to my body!  I have the choice of being bedridden with terrible muscle spasms which require heavy medication or I can simply rest for 10 to 30 minutes –then resume my activities.  The problem with this method of resting frequently is that eventually your muscles start to atrophy (basically you lose muscle faster than your body replaces it) from lack of using them.  Now if I would have had a residual income BEFORE I became disabled in 1999, I would have had the money to pay for physical therapy, a hot tub — actually the one I want has a treadmill in it so you can move while the water helps support your body weight and I wouldn’t have lost so much muscle mass so quickly, not to mention the stress of going 5 months without any income at all! Why EVERYONE Needs A Residual Income

October 4th, 2010 by Karla Setchel

Hi Folks,

I hope you are doing better every week.  My blog is about recovering physically and financially, so today I want to talk to you about a financial tip that I am passionate about  – Residual Income.  I’m even going to do a video about it for you, which is rare because I only do videos when I’m feeling really good and can look my best. With fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, those times aren’t as frequent as I would like for them to be but on a positive note, “I am getting better all the time”.  If you’re chronically ill, I suggest you repeat that last quote to yourself frequently on a daily basis until you start to feel it. Why am I passionate about residual income?  What is residual income?  How can YOU make residual income?  All great questions and I will be happy to share my views with you.

Getting Started Again After a “Staycation”

August 24th, 2010 by Karla Setchel

Hey Folks,

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve written.  I took a 2 week “staycation” – that word will be in the dictionary one day!  My son and I visited some of my Aunts, Uncles and cousins, played a little pool and watched a lot of DVD’s.  We learned that there is a right and a wrong way to insert the case back into Red Box.  He had a few more stick shift driving lessons with my roomie and a lot of free time to do what he wanted before starting back to school.  He’s very active so he ran with his cross country team in the mornings, hiked surrounding mountains, took his girlfriend to a local zoo and a cookout at a  lake.

I had time to realize that I need more balance in my life – which I believe will bring more happiness and profit than working during all of the time that I have any strength  to avoid having to deal with the emotions of my ex-boyfriend breaking up with me over a year ago.  I knew that I was using work as an escape, but it has always been my way of running away from hurtful situations and it has served me well; however, it’s time to deal with it and move on.

Now the hard part, getting back into a routine that includes work!  I’m a perfectionist, like most people who have fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue, and I’m learning a new method (new for me) for my marketing business.  So I don’t feel comfortable making that first call until I’ve mastered all of the training—which I seem to be having a hard time finishing.  The training is great and much easier than any I’ve done in the past – it actually makes sense to me, but as soon as I’m finished the training – I’ll have to pick up the phone & start talking to people – which I’m good at, so why the procrastination?  I bet Leelja could tell me!  Any of you marketing people out there ever had trouble picking up the phone?

Anyway, I’m slowly creating a new routine that includes some light exercise with my osteoball, marketing work, taking care of me work ( fixing dinner and doing the dishes ), spiritual time, and relaxation – all without feeling guilty about not working my marketing business during all of my “productive” time.  Oh yeah, and I’m supposed to remember to be flexible too .

Overwhelmed Much?

July 27th, 2010 by Karla Setchel

Hi Folks,
I hope this note finds you feeling better than usual!  I usually write my blogs on Sunday, it’s Tuesday and I’m still trying to catch up.  I had 3 or 4 days that I felt stronger and less pain than usual — although I didn’t seem to get as much done for some reason, but I did feel better!  Next weeks blog will be about one of the new techniques that seems to be helping. This blog is about recovering both physically and financially and I’ve been focusing on the financial part of my life this past week which became a bit overwhelming when I received 1025 leads on Sunday night!  Since then I have been developing a script for my downline to use because I can’t call 1025 people in a timely manner!  I’m sure that everyone gets overwhelmed at times in their life, people with the chronic pain and weakness that comes with fibromaylgia and chronic fatigue just get there faster!

So this is it for this weeks blog.  Next week will be about some of the new things I’ve tried that seem to be making an improvement in my physical health.

I Believe “The Wellness Prescription” Advice is Working!

June 15th, 2010 by Karla Setchel

Hi Folks,

I believe that “The Wellness Prescription” advice to avoid inflammatory foods is working.  I still have pain 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but I’m doing more activity without as much of an increase in my fibromyalgia pain as I used to experience with extra activity.  Common sense would suggest that if I was maintaining the same level of activity as before I started “The Wellness Prescription” advice that I would be experiencing less pain.  However, my business is growing very quickly right now and I have the choice of doing more activity than “usual” with the possibility of  extra fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue symptoms or letting opportunities slip by that may affect my long-term financial well-being.  So, I’m choosing to do the extra activity and pray that the changes I’ve made in my eating habits, getting the mercury removed from my teeth, and everything else that I’m doing to recover will help me get through without any major flare ups.

Here’s an insightful response to my last post that I thought might be helpful to you. “As to giving up, I visualize a waterfall. It flows continuously no matter what obstacles might be thrown in its way. However, the flow may not force the object away, but simply go over, around or otherwise beyond it. The obstacle simply does not matter. The flow continues no matter what.

As to dieting, my simple advice is always a lifestyle based on eating foods (as much as we are committed to) that do not come in a wrapper, and have no listed ingredients. No bag, box or bottle. The closer you coordinate your eating habits with natural, unadulterated foods, the greater you give your body a chance to build, grow and heal.”  David Merrill

When Do You Give Up?

June 9th, 2010 by Karla Setchel

Hi Folks,

I’m still on “The Wellness Prescription” diet.  I apologize for last weeks whining — anyone who has ever “dieted” knows the “tantrum phase” LOL  I noticed slight improvement in the fibromyalgia pain level, but I’m pushing to do a little more so it’s hard to gauge.  As far as the weight loss, I haven’t lost any more pounds by just cutting out the “inflammation causing foods”.  Guess I’ll  be forced to read the rest of the book & count calories to accomplish that! I am getting an “osteoball” that was recommended by a friend — more on that after I get it.  Hopefully it will help me rehab my atrophied muscles — which will burn more fat as well as support my bone structure with less pain (theoretically).

So my question today, “When do you give up?”  I’m not just talking about a diet — for whatever reason you’re dieting, but what about your job, your relationship or your business?  That’s a tough question.  I’m a fighter when it comes to something I believe in — I lead with and follow my heart.  Many times I have stayed in a less than perfect “situation” for too long because I believed in the “situation” but the person or company either did not bring out the best in me or did not produce the results that were promised even though I did everything I was taught to the best of my ability.

Think about it, how many times does a baby “try” to walk before they can actually do it without falling down?  Until they look graceful instead of a “weeble” — anyone remember “weebles wobble but they don’t fall down”? Babies have a HUGE DESIRE to be mobile, to go where they want to go instead of where they’re placed.  They don’t care if an adult says they “can’t walk”, they keep trying and most of them succeed eventually. Can I Earn Additional Money While I’m on Social Security Disability? YES!!!

May 4th, 2010 by Karla Setchel

Hi Folks,

Did you know that — if you’re able, you can work and still receive Social Security Disability Income?  I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue in 1996 and was no longer able to work ANY job by 1999.  In fact, I’ve had a full time “care giver” since then. However, my social security income is not enough to pay for the “non-traditional” treatments that I need — like weekly myofacial massage to keep me more mobile, or my in home care giver, or house keeeper etc… .  These things are not a “luxury” for me, they’re a necessity to live as “normal” a life as possible.  I got involved with several network marketing companies over the years because of the “residual income & time leveraging” promise. You keep building your business and your income keeps growing, month after month and after a period of time your income keeps growing even if you’re not working — more on that later.  Many people are “afraid” of losing their benefits if they work. First of all, you can earn an EXTRA $719 a month without it affecting your disability income or medicare benefits at all — everIf you’re ambitious and want to make more than $719 a month, your “9 month trial work period” does not start until AFTER you have NET income over your current social security income of at least $720.00 after business and disability expenses  (see first link for chart). You still receive your current Social Security income during this time. In addition,  you can make as much as possible during the first 9 month “trial” period, then up to $1000 a month before losing income benefits & your medicare will continue for longer than that. If your “extra income” drops below the $1000 a month, call Social Security back & they will reinstate your original benefits.  With the residual income & time leveraging, by the time you’ve made  a minimum $720 a month for 9 months after expenses  (again you can make an unlimited amount during this “9 month trial work” phase), your income should be growing fast enough that it’s more than your social security disability benefits if you’re with the right company. Would more money be helpful to you and your family?

Check out all the Social Security details at:

http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OACT/COLA/twp.html http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10095.html

I tried working with a network marketing company years ago & I called Social Security to let them know.  The lady ( I don’t remember her name) told me not to worry about it until after I made the limit in one month — then call her back.  At that point it was under $700, but I never made it.  She must have been familiar with the pay structure of 98% of the  network marketing (also known as MLM) companies out there who don’t pay the new people very well!  I recently got involved with another network marketing company that has a much better & immediate compensation plan and I have  called Social Security, they’re are sending me a letter that I “notified” them, but my “9 month trial period” won’t start until I’ve made $720 over all of my business and disability costs — like my business phone, new computer, internet service for my business computer, costs for assistance because I can’t get around on my own, wheel chair batteries or repair,  ink for my printer etc… .  Remember — this “earned income” is in ADDITION TO your current social security disability check. I’m only working a few hours a day, an hour here and there as I’m able, but because network marketing uses “teamwork”, I don’t have to do everything myself, and my income is growing monthly because of the “residual income and leveraging” aspects of network marketing.  Continue Reading
