Are You Tenacious, Focused or Just Obsessive?

 by Karla Setchel

Hi Folks,

I hope this week finds you feeling better every day!  Most of my articles are specifically about how to effectively deal with the symptoms of fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue or other chronic illnesses.  Today I want to stray a little and ask you “how do you deal with a problem”?  I’ve found that when a situation arises that needs to be resolved, I focus the majority of my energy on that situation until I find a solution or answer that I’m happy with.  Especially when it has to do with a relationship that is important to me. Some people call that tenacity or focus — some might call it obsessive!  How do you deal with a “situation” that needs to be fixed?  Do you let everything else go until you figure out a solution or are you able to compartmentalize your life so you can continue to keep up with everything else going on?  Do you think one way of dealing with a problem or situation is better than the other?  I would love to hear your input so feel free to leave a comment and let me know how you handle life and what you think :-D .

Here’s to Feeling Better!

Obsessive…I really do lose sleep when faced with a prominent problem. However, life is right in my face all day long, so I must ‘take care’ of the needs that are in front of me or chaos ensues! I find that a ‘problem’ tends to unwind itself without too much effort on my part, but at the onset..well, it feels dauntingly overwhelming. So Yes…I do obsess, and No…I don’t seem to be the one fix’n it. The problem lies in my REMEMBERING that all is in good hands, All State style.

    Luv u Karla

    Hey Kim!
Thanks for sharing, it’s always good to hear your point of view! And yes, I think I would obsess less (say that fast 3 times!) if I remembered more often during a problem/situation that I’m not really the one in control (although I do need to control my reactions) and “all is in good hands”! :)

    Much Love & Many Blessings,
    Karla

I would say I’m a trifle obsessive but like to think of myself as focused.

I have learned over the last year that while I DO think I’m the one who creates my future (a la the Law of Attraction), when something not-so-delightful happens, I cannot change the Event because it’s in the past. I can only influence the Outcome by choosing my Response/Reaction.

These two awarenesses have literally changed my life and now I find there’s a whole lot less to lose sleep over and much more to enjoy.

    Hi goddess Jacqui!

Thank you so much for your comment. I need to learn the law of attraction better. I’ve watched Down the Rabbit Hole, What the Bleep Do We Know The Secret and listened to Dr. Wayne Dyer’s stuff. Any more suggestions to help me get it passed my head & into my heart?

    Many Blessings,

Question comes at a funny time. I just sent an email to my list and opened with these words: “I get easily sidetracked due to a huge personality deficit: One-Track Mindedness. Well, at least that’s what my father always said. I would be involved in a project, often connected with my beloved model trains or my passion- the school newspaper, and nothing would deter me. What bugged my father was that I rarely felt that way about my homework. …” I used that as an intro to justify not writing for two weeks and explain that I got a notion to send them a special report but had to finish writing it. I worked with focus and maybe obsession 10-14 hours a day for 5 days straight until I finished what became a 35 page ebook. I like to have a short-range project and become fully absorbed in it. But interesting choice of words you offer. Let me ask this, is it “obsessive” to go to work at a job for 10 hours a day, sometimes 6-7 days in a row and going to meetings on your day off? My daughter is a retail store manager and that is required of her. I think the demand is unreasonable, but she needs her job. Badly. Who doesn’t. So if I work the same way at my home business, because I know I need it to grow and become profitable, is that obsessive or survivalist?

Hi Karla, Abraham Hicks is my favorite for learning about the law of attraction. In fact, they were the first to start teaching about it, and other teachings come from Abe hicks themselves.

They have just released some wonderful meditation CDs ( or a digital download ), each meditation goes for 15 minutes and encourages one to release resistance around:
General wellbeing, Financial wellbeing, physical well being and relationships

I’ve only been listening to them for a week and I feel my resistance about certain things changing. Let me know if you want their website Karla.

    Karla,
I see how this can go both ways. If it’s a huge issue that needs to be resolved, I work at it until I come to an acceptance of it, no matter what the outcome. If it’s little things, I tend to allow them to work out through time and perspective.

Well, I guess perspective is a biggy no matter what the issue. Like The Goddess Jacqui says, we may not be able to change the event, but we sure do have control over how we look at it.

Life is too short to spend all my energy on one point of focus. Life will pass right on by if you focus on only one aspect of your existence.

    Hey Richard!

I understand the “survivalist” mode all too well. It’s unfortunate that so many people’s lives are consumed with just surviving whether it be on a physical or financial level. I guess “survivalist” could be interchanged with “focused, tenacious or obsessive” when it comes to just about any situation, including personal relationships. Very interesting point of view! Thanks for sharing it :)

    Many Blessings,
    Karla

    Hey Julieanne!

Thanks for the info, I would love to have Abraham Hicks website. I friend let me borrow a video one time but it’s been son long I’ve forgotten most of it and I’m not even sure what the topic was about. The Law of Attraction is definitely something I want to study more closely.

    Many Blessings!

    Hi Val!

Thanks for sharing your insight. Perspective is a biggy and I’m trying to learn to be better at identifying “huge issues” from “the little things”. Another opportunity for growth on my part! :)

I may consider myself as an obsessive person when it comes to dealing with problems. I don’t stop thinking how to settle these problems until I can finally solve it. My only reason for that is I want to live a stress free life.

    Hi Stan,

That’s pretty much what I do, I have to get a problem fixed before I can move on. My goal is to get to the point that I can still maintain the rest of my life while dealing with a major problem.

    Best Wishes,
    Karla

Obsessive thinking may simply be a cover for or distraction from feelings.

    Aloha Karla,

I believe that everything happens the way it was suppose to. When there is a small challenge, I surrender it to the Universe and visualize myself in the situation I want to manifest. I start to feel great and then something great happens. Then I start feeling better and another miracle happens and soon enough, the visualized manifestation appears!! That’s what I focus on.

    Thank you for sharing!

    Aloha,
    Kellie :)

    Hey Kellie,

Thank you so much for your input. Visualizing myself in the solution I want to manifest definitely sounds like a great idea :)
